With Koha, full text searching is standard, but you can select the search structure, Zebra or Elasticsearch, that is right for your library. Koha utilizes modern library standards, including MARC 21, UNIMARC, Z39.50, SRU/SRW, SIP2, and NCIP to ensure interoperability with other systems. The Koha community is proactive about developing or enhancing features that will support information access in the 21st-century library.

The staff client is web-based, offering attractive, easy-to-use interfaces that facilitate library workflows. Both the staff client and OPAC use responsive design, making them usable on desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones.

Koha is the world’s first free and open source library system. No license, or licensing fee, required. The code is open, distributed under the General Public License (GPL) version 3 or later and is always free to download and use.

Because you don’t need a license to use Koha, you can install and host it yourself or contract with any vendor for the services you need. You own your data, can customize your system, and can choose the vendor that best supports your library.
