Equinox Welcomes Ralls County Library to the Missouri Evergreen Consortium

Atlanta, Ga., June 16, 2022: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is excited to announce the addition of Ralls County Library to the Missouri Evergreen Consortium with their adoption of Evergreen ILS, an award winning library solution used by more than 1,800 libraries worldwide.

The Ralls County Library opened its doors with grant money from the state of Missouri in 1992. It now provides services for 651 patrons, and its migration encompassed 25,874 bibliographic and item records. Equinox provided project management and configuration services in addition to data extraction, bibliographic deduplication, and data conversion of patron and transaction records. Equinox will continue to provide Ralls County Library with support and hosting on Sequoia, Equinox’s hosting platform for open source tools for library automation services. Remote training was provided by Equinox’s expert staff of librarians.

“We had been considering joining Missouri Evergreen for some time, but had some reservations about what seemed like a daunting task for our small staff. Once we decided to get the ball rolling, the training and support we received from Equinox was very helpful and made the process quite painless,” said Brian Cleveland, Director of Ralls County Library. “They have been very responsive to our numerous questions, and very efficient in providing assistance. We have been very impressed overall with the results, and our circulation numbers reflect that our patrons are quite pleased with the change as well.”

The Missouri Evergreen Consortium is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which began in 2012 and is now celebrating its 10th year supporting libraries across the state of Missouri. Learn more at: http://moevergreenlibraries.org/

“It is always exciting to empower library communities and to help a consortium expand and support new member libraries,” said Jason Etheridge, Senior Developer at Equinox. “Working with Ralls County Library was a pleasure, and we are thrilled to help welcome them into the Evergreen community.”

Equinox Welcomes the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence to Koha ILS

Atlanta, Ga., June 2, 2022: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is honored to announce the addition of the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence (OCALI)’s Lending Library to Koha ILS, an open source integrated library system used by libraries worldwide. OCALI is part of the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio.

“OCALI’s library is unique. We specialize in assistive technology devices and kits, braille and large print resources, FM systems, and content and instructional materials to support learners with autism and other complex disabilities. It is essential that our library is accessible to those who use screen readers and other technology that allows access,” said Sheila M. Smith, Senior Director of Research, Quality Assurance and Impact at OCALI. “We had been using a FileMaker system as a band-aid, so the Koha system has really allowed us to function as a library again. We appreciated the partnership with the team at Equinox as they took time to learn our unique items and problem solve with us through our specific complexities. The solution focused attitude of the team has been wonderful.”

The OCALI Lending Library is available to anyone over the age of 18 in the state of Ohio and allows patrons to check out assessment materials and includes AT device loans in addition to other curated resources and materials. Their migration includes 3,641 bibliographic records and supports 876 patrons across the state of Ohio. Equinox provided Koha support, hosting, implementation and data services including data extraction. Remote training was provided by Equinox’s expert staff of degreed librarians.

“Equinox is committed to increasing accessibility and inclusivity in library technology and it was a huge honor to play a part in supporting OCALI’s Lending Library,” said Erica Rohlfs, Senior Implementation Project Manager at Equinox. “OCALI provides a unique and valuable resource to patrons across the state of Ohio and Koha ILS, designed with special libraries in mind and with accessible web design, is a perfect fit. We are excited to welcome them to the open source library community.”

Equinox Welcomes Western Pocono Community Library and Barrett Paradise Friendly Library to the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System

Equinox Welcomes Western Pocono Community Library and Barrett Paradise Friendly Library to the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System

Atlanta, Ga., May 31, 2022 : Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is excited to welcome the Western Pocono Community Library (PA) and the Barrett Paradise Friendly Library (PA) to the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System (PaILS) with their adoption of Evergreen ILS.

“We had a terrific experience migrating to our new system,” said Mary Ann Lewis, Library Director at Barrett Paradise Friendly Library. “The Equinox team was well organized and provided excellent training. We had some quirky issues due to how records were formatted in our previous system, but the Equinox team was always quick to respond with viable solutions. Migrating to a new system, even for a small library, is a daunting task but Equinox made everything go as smoothly as possible.”

The migrations of Western Pocono Community Library and Barrett Paradise Friendly Library encompassed 90,373 bibliographic records. The two libraries provide services for 38,029 patrons in their communities. Equinox provided the libraries with project management and Evergreen configuration in addition to data services including data extraction, bibliographic deduplication, and data conversion of patron and transactional data. Both libraries will be provided with hosting and support from Equinox on Sequoia, Equinox’s hosting platform for open source tools for library automation services. Remote training was provided by Equinox’s expert staff.

“Migrating to a new ILS is an exciting time but can also be scary and time consuming. The team at Equinox handled our migration beautifully,” said Patti Weiss, Library Director at Western Pocono Community Library. “Western Pocono Community Library’s move to PaILS/SPARK was a long time coming and when it was time to take that leap the migration team was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I could not have asked for a better experience.”

PaILS was founded in June 2011 as a non-profit organization to provide an open source integrated library system. It oversees SPARK, a consortium of Evergreen libraries across Pennsylvania. Equinox has supported the SPARK consortium since 2013.

“It was an honor to collaborate with two such wonderful organizations dedicated to increasing the value of their libraries for their communities,” said Erica Rohlfs, Senior Implementation Project Manager at Equinox. “The value of open source is it really opens the door for increased access, it’s an honor to welcome both of these libraries to PaILS and the Evergreen community.”

Weiss also noted increased access as an important benefit of the migration. “Western Pocono is now in a position to resource share with the entire Monroe County,” she said, “and that is a big deal.”

Atlanta, Ga., April 12, 2022: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is excited to welcome Porter County Public Library (IN) to Evergreen Indiana with support from Indiana State Library. The project partnership led to the successful completion of the Porter County Public Library migration and brings Equinox’s superior service to members of Evergreen Indiana.

Rogan Hamby and Jennifer Weston will be presenting “Technical Services: Be a Report Warrior and Data Analysis Hero,” with a focus on library reporting that takes collections development and analysis to the next level.

“We wanted to provide a session that we would have wanted to attend ourselves – one that goes beyond standard reports to provide enhanced assessment opportunities for library collection usage,” said Jennifer Weston, Product and Education Specialist at Equinox. “Libraries can optimize the templates provided out of the box to really get the most out of the reporting system and have the opportunity to brainstorm with your colleagues to see what’s possible.”

NETSL is a section of the New England Library Association (NELA) and a regional group of the American Library Association (ALA). NETSL hosts their conference annually in the Spring to bring together those with a shared interest in technical services for libraries. This will be the third year that the conference will be offered in a virtual format.

“The whole organization thrives when strategic decisions are made on great data. Cataloging reports are uniquely positioned to provide that lens to staff,” said Rogan Hamby, Data and Project Analyst at Equinox. “We are excited to workshop this idea with attendees of the 2022 NETSL Conference.”

Equinox Announces 2022 CORAL Online Summit

Atlanta, Ga., February 21, 2022: Equinox Open Library Initiative is excited to announce that the 2022 CORAL Online Summit will be held on May 18, 2022. This free event is open to current users of CORAL and everyone interested in learning about the CORAL open source electronic management system. The CORAL Online Summit offers the opportunity to make connections, share experiences, and discuss best practices with the CORAL community. Presenters will cover topics related to how CORAL is used in public, academic, and special libraries. Registration is now open:https://bit.ly/CORALSummit22. Proposals for short talks (10-20 minutes) are being accepted now through March 7, 2022: https://bit.ly/CORALProposal22.

CORAL is a powerful, open source electronic resource management tool used by libraries and institutions worldwide. CORAL’s interoperable modules allow libraries to streamline their management of electronic resources and leverage useful tools such as customized acquisitions workflows, license comparison and management, vendor and subscription management, and COUNTER-compliant reporting tools. The CORAL project is led by the CORAL Steering Committee and the software is developed and maintained by community contributions to the project.

“If you’re seeking a tool to help manage electronic resources and wondering whether CORAL would be useful at your library, this is the place to find out,” said Jennifer Weston, Product and Education Specialist at Equinox. “If you are already using CORAL, the Summit provides an opportunity to engage with a peer group working in electronic resources management and to connect with the community supporting the open-source software. Join us and bring your questions.”

Equinox is pleased to host the CORAL Online Summit for a second year. The 2021 CORAL Online Summit was recorded and is available to view at: https://bit.ly/CORALSummit21. Last year’s summit included presentations and participation from CORAL users worldwide.
